Into the future or back to the past?

In this ever changing world technology and science have become more and more crucial for our everyday lives. Have they now reached their limits? Or do we still have a lot to create?

Why do we need technology so much nowadays when the ancient man, when looking for his mates, survived perfectly without communicating over e-mail? Would the Swiss ever have invented yodeling if they had the phone? There are many questions out there.

Since the dawn of time the human being have had a proclivity for journeys – searching for the 'undiscovered' as well as surviving. One thing is for sure, humans are restless and curious.

It is in our nature. We need social interaction in order to maintain a sustainable life and health. Many look out for adventure. Humans need to be part of a community, have a social life that will make us feel appreciated, desired and in close proximity to someone.

Curiosity moves forward

Whether by innate character, pursuit of happiness or ambitions we all have something to achieve, and our curiosity has led to many great and creative inventions. It couldn't be said better than the man known to be the greatest creative inventor of the 20th century, Walt Disney.

Walt Disney once said: "We keep moving forward, opening new doors and doing new things, because we're curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths."

The future seems to be more competitive than ever before, and what exactly seems to be the reason for that? Many would admittedly place the blame on politics, some would blame it on science or the entertainment industry. Few realize that politics is business, and so is science and entertainment.

Almost everything have become a business.

If you don't seem to understand how to operate the keyboard or at least write an e-mail, getting along in this world becomes increasingly challenging. Many people have lost their jobs due to lack of computer skills. And that have caused a surge of contempt feelings towards modern technology. Can we really blame our misfortunes on science and technology for ripping people off their jobs?

Cyber war

Major companies like Apple and Microsoft have long been in a semi cyber war. The quest for eternal glory as the masters of the world has driven the computer business into a tight competition. Apple have for years maintained their position as the largest technology company and very much admired too considering its large revenues and assets. The influence Apple prides to have globally, with their effective strategic business methods and manufacturing of electronic products, comprise of hard work, productivity and right timing!

The new millennium have changed our everyday lives rapidly. Facebook, Twitter and Youtube are just one of the few examples of great accomplishments that have become sensational successes both socially and financially. As Armstrong said it when he landed on the moon: "Small step for man and one giant leap for mankind".

Can we really say that about modern day technology – in this case the Internet which basically connects us all. Facebook, Twitter and Youtube are not only for entertainment or advertising or self-marketing opportunities, but as well as to make friends, networking, strengthen our sense of solidarity across the globe, claim your 15 minutes of fame – the late Andy Warhol believed everyone in the future will have a 15-minutes of fame, and it turned out to be true. Well predicted for a man who liked to make art of the American consumerism. Apropos.

In many aspects Facebook, YouTube and as well as Google has given technology its buoyancy that have captivated millions of people world-wide. In lieu of exploring or waiting for an absolution, many have the privilege to simply gather information they need right away and to utilize their skills, businesses, etc. The options are endless.

Informed or addicted?

The sense of connectedness provided by modern technology makes this particular era of virtual communication, social networking so interesting that to some extend we have been grudgingly converted and addicted, from once being informed and educated by books to computer-savvy 'geeks'. Although not everyone is acquiescence to the so-called modern lifestyle and today's technology, and prefer to preserve the 'good old' and more simple lifestyle.

Surely everyone is entitled to do what makes one most comfortable, but one thing is for sure, and that is the future will definitely become more dependant on science and technology even if its highly regarded as a detriment to the society.

People will never stop making and creating. It is something that is a part of our nature. We keep looking forward in hopes of trying to make sense out of the world we live in, and in the end all there is to say is: "What else can we do?"
